My guess is that the use of artificial intelligence existed even in the nineties, when the stock market was much healthier and deeper than it is now, but we didn't know about it and couldn't realize it because it wasn't used as extensively. Now they've taken it to extremes; almost all transactions in liquidated funds were done by AI, but I believe that many more were carried out through what is publicly known as index engineering. Doping athletes are punished, but we stand idly by while billionaires use AI to fleece the public.
