If politicians truly had authority, exams would be held among candidates before they were chosen, and candidacy would be open to everyone. The power that controls the world with money has created a virtual entity called the state, and placed its people in positions supposedly determined by elections. We think of the president, prime minister, ministers, members of parliament, and mayors, who have no initiative whatsoever, as independent bodies, but they are no different from the doorman carrying out the orders of the building manager; they receive instructions from the authority behind the scenes.
